Sheena Raeburn creates abstract landscape paintings that capture the shifting, atmospheric thresholds of the Scottish landscape.
Her practice is anchored in an intuitive exploration of memory, sensation, and feeling, translating the physical realities of the land into deep emotional resonance. Driven by a vital use of colour and expressive, sweeping gestures, her canvases function as immersive thresholds—inviting the viewer directly into tactile experiences of wind, light, and water.
Raeburn’s painterly vision is uniquely informed by her parallel career as a landscape architect. This dual discipline deepens her attentiveness to spatial geography, structural alignment, and the environmental dynamics of place. Rather than merely documenting topography, she strips the landscape down to its energetic core, encouraging the eye to navigate familiar terrains in entirely new ways.
A graduate of both Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and The University of Edinburgh, Raeburn’s contemporary practice is engaged with Scotland's vibrant art community. She has frequently exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy with the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour (2024, 2026), as well as the Paisley Art Institute.
In 2026, she was awarded the prestigious House for an Art Lover accolade, culminating in a major six-month solo exhibition within the historic Charles Rennie Mackintosh-designed venue.
Following a recent artist residency at the Crinan Hotel in Argyll, Raeburn continues to expand her exploration of coastal margins and the ever-changing light, sky and seascapes of Scotland.
